
Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Bathroom Heaters
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, splashing water, and electrical currents all hanging out in the same small room. It’s a recipe for trouble. When we build infrared towel rails, we aren’t just thinking about how to get your towel warm. We’re thinking about how to stop the heater from literally blowing up in your face.
The “Pop” Factor
Here is the thing about standard quartz tubes. They get incredibly hot—sometimes up to 1,000°C. If a single cold drop of water hits a surface that hot, the glass shrinks instantly in one tiny spot. That creates a massive amount of stress. And then it shatters. To stop that from happening, we use explosion-proof quartz. We’ve tweaked the glass mix and added a special coating so it can handle those wild temperature swings. It means if you accidentally splash some water while showering, the tube stays in one piece. No drama.
Getting the Heat Right
These lamps use infrared waves to do the heavy lifting. We spend a lot of time balancing the wattage and the length of the tube. Why? Because we want your towel to feel toasted and cozy, but we don’t want to scorch the wall behind it. The quartz envelope does a great job of protecting the tungsten filament inside from wearing out, so the lamp lasts a long time. It heats up fast. Really fast. But because the surface gets so hot, we use heavy-duty heat insulators. You don’t want a permanent brown burn mark on your bathroom tiles.
Where Things Usually Go Wrong
Most people think the glass is the only thing that matters, but the real weak point is usually the seal. If a quartz tube isn’t seated perfectly, steam creeps in. It finds the electrical contacts, causes some corrosion, and eventually, the whole thing shorts out. It’s a pain. That’s why we use precision-fit gaskets to keep the humidity far away from the electronics. If you’re putting these in a really steamy room, just make sure the IP rating of the whole unit is up to the task. A fancy, high-grade tube doesn’t mean much if the wiring is left open to the damp air.
