Keeping a brood warm is a tricky balancing act. You’ve got constant moisture in the air, and you’re dealing with tiny, sensitive animals. The real struggle isn’t just cranking up the heat—it’s doing it without hurting the birds. The light problem Here’s the thing: standard short-wave infrared lamps are way too bright. They put out a harsh glare that can actually burn out a chick’s retina. Not a great start to life. To fix this, we put a special filter on the quartz glass. It shifts the energy toward the long-wave spectrum. You still get all the warmth they need to stay cozy, but the light is softened. It takes the edge off the glare, meaning less stress for the birds and no permanent eye damage. Dealing with the grime Chicken coops are humid, dusty, and generally messy. If a little bit of moisture leaks into the lamp, the tungsten filament will pop the second it gets hot. It’s frustrating and a waste of money. That’s why we use sealed glass-to-metal joins. It keeps the inside bone-dry, no matter how damp the coop gets. Then there’s the heat density. We have to be careful with the wattage. You want them to warm up fast, but if you cram too much power into a small space, you’ll scorch the bedding—or worse, the birds. It’s all about the height. You have to adjust your mounting brackets to make sure you aren’t creating any dangerous hotspots. A few tips for setup These lamps slide right into your standard sockets, so installation is easy. But keep in mind that the filter does take a tiny bit of the raw heat away compared to a clear tube. If your coop is drafty or doesn’t have great insulation, you might need to hang the lamps a bit lower or just add a few more units to the room. And one last thing: use high-temperature rated cabling. You don’t want your wire insulation melting right next to the socket. Not a good look.
