
Keeping Your Outdoor Heaters Alive in the Rain and Humidity
Let’s be honest: most outdoor heaters are a nightmare once the weather turns. One good rainstorm or a few humid nights, and suddenly you’ve got moisture sneaking into the electricals or condensation gunking up the heating element. It’s a recipe for a dead heater and a lot of wasted money. That’s why we build our heaters with an IP65 rating.
Dealing with Water and That Annoying Fog
When we say “IP65,” we basically mean the thing is built like a tank. It’s dust-tight and can handle water jets hitting it from any direction. We use heavy-duty gaskets and sealed cable entries because the last thing you want is rain spraying directly onto your internal circuitry. But fogging? That’s a different story. If you’ve ever seen a quartz tube in humid air, you know how it gets. As the heater cycles on and off, water droplets cling to the glass. This creates “hot spots”—tiny areas that get way too hot—which eventually cause the tube to crack. We fixed this by designing the heater to manage the heat gradient across the glass. It keeps the surface clear, so the water can’t stick.
Why This Actually Matters for Your Wallet
Think about what happens when a cold spray of water hits a scorching hot lamp. It’s a thermal shock. That shock creates these tiny, invisible micro-fractures in the quartz. Over time, they add up, and the lamp just gives up. By sealing the housing and shielding the element, we stop that stress from happening. You aren’t spending your weekends replacing burnt-out lamps because the weather decided to be difficult.
The Trade-offs (The “Catch”)
Now, there is a catch. When you seal a heater this tightly to keep water out, the heat can’t escape as easily as it does in those cheap, open-frame models. The chassis is going to get hotter. Because of that, you need to be smart about where you put them. Make sure your mounting brackets and nearby materials can handle the heat. And for heaven’s sake, don’t pack them too close together. If there’s no breathing room, you risk melting your internal wiring. Just use high-temp cables and keep the vents clear. Do that, and these things will last you a long time.
