
Making Bathroom Heaters Warm Without Blinding You
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. To fix that, we use short-wave infrared lamps. They’re great because they give you that instant hit of warmth the second you flip the switch. But there’s a catch: these things can be blindingly bright. If you’ve ever squinted at a heating lamp, you know exactly what I mean. It’s especially tough on kids or babies whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. The trick to fixing the glare We don’t want you feeling like you’re under a stadium spotlight while you’re brushing your teeth. To stop that, we play around with how the quartz element actually puts out light. Instead of a standard halogen bulb that blasts every color of the rainbow, we use special coatings or gas fills. This basically filters out those harsh blue tones and dials down the visible light. You still get all the cozy heat, but you don’t get that “I’m blinded” feeling when the lamp warms up. The guts of the machine Under the hood, we use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because these lamps go from ice-cold to scorching in seconds. Regular glass would just crack under that kind of pressure. We also make sure the filament is dead-center. That way, the heat spreads evenly across your floor instead of hitting one spot. They pack a lot of wattage into a tiny space so they fit in your ceiling, but they still heat up fast. A few things to keep in mind for installation Here’s the thing: you’re putting high-voltage heat in a room full of steam. You’ve got to be careful with the wiring and make sure everything is moisture-proof. Also, because these quartz tubes get so hot, the housing around them needs to be heavy-duty. If you use cheap plastic trim, it’ll warp. And don’t try to cram too much power into a tiny, sealed box. If there isn’t enough airflow, the thermal cutout will trip, or worse, the internals will just fry. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between a toasty room and a safe fixture.
